The Harvard GSD hosted its 2017 HarvardX Design Conference around the theme: "Shift". Innovators and students across disciplines came together to talk about the shifting role of design and its impact across different products, spaces, platforms, and systems. The branding for the event featured generative typography driven by historical data for each conference topic.
By searching each thematic word (e.g. 'products') through Google nGrams, visual trend lines of publication and word usage over time were then used to distort the type. Paired with a high-contrast palette, this distortion became a distinctive identity. A style guide and application assets, including all print collateral and t-shirts, were screen-printed by hand for volunteers.
